He remains actively involved in implant development, research, and leadership roles within Orthopaedic societies, including serving as past President of the Philadelphia Orthopaedic Society and co-chairing major regional Shoulder/Elbow and Orthopedic Trauma Symposia.
Education/Training
Dr. Kazanjian earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he also completed his internship and residency and was honored as Intern of the Year and Orthopaedic Resident of the Year. He then completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Traumatology/Adult Reconstruction at the renowned Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia, followed by advanced training in shoulder and elbow conditions. His expertise has led him to lecture regionally, nationally, and internationally on complex shoulder and elbow topics.
Certification
Dr. Kazanjian is a board-certified Orthopaedic surgeon with over two decades of experience specializing in complex shoulder and elbow disorders, including open reconstruction, arthroplasty, arthroscopy, and trauma. Since 2004, he has maintained a clinical academic practice serving patients in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs.
Professional Memberships
As an Active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES), Dr. Kazanjian is among a select group of surgeons nationwide and internationally recognized for excellence in this subspecialty. He is an elected member of the prestigious Association of Clinical Elbow and Shoulder Surgeons (ACESS). He also co-founded the Mid-Atlantic Shoulder and Elbow Society and established the Shoulder and Elbow Section of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics.
Awards and Distinguishing Titles
He is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). A passionate educator, Dr. Kazanjian has trained countless medical students, interns, residents, and fellows since 2007, earning recognition as Attending of the Year by PCOM Orthopaedic Residents in 2016. He is deeply committed to advancing the field of shoulder and elbow surgery through teaching, research, and innovation.
Interesting Facts
Beyond his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Kazanjian has served as team physician for professional sports organizations, including recent coverage for Team USA Rugby League. A former Academic All-American and four-year starting baseball player at Bucknell University, he brings a unique perspective to sports-related injuries and recovery.
