As the summer comes to an end, you may want to do a few things to celebrate the past few months of sunshine and warm weather before the fall makes its debut for the year. Philadelphia is just the place to soak in the last of summer’s rays and get together with friends and family to enjoy the weather. 2015 Fringe Festival

From September 3 to September 15, Philadelphia will host this festival for the 19thyear with progressive performances from artists across the world. Experience art in the form of dance, theater, visual arts, music, and spoken-word performances in various places around the city, from restaurants to street corners.

With a mission to inspire new ways of thinking, the Fringe Festival involves more than 1,000 performances throughout the day and continuing late into the night at FringeArts’ center on the Delaware River Waterfront.

Nightscape: A Light and Sound Experience at Longwood Gardens

Keeping with the artistry theme, but adding foliage, is Nightscape: A Light and Sound Experience, an exhibit at Longwood Gardens that runs through October 31. After the sun sets, the gardens come alive with moving images and lights choreographed to music in eight different areas.

This installation was created by Philadelphia’s Klip Collective, which has created stunning installations for the Philadelphia Flower Show, Central Park Conservatory, and Sundance Film Festival. And when you’re feeling thirsty from roaming around the gardens, head over to the beer garden.

Made in America Music Festival

Taking over the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the fourth year will be Budweiser’s Made in America music festival. Over Labor Day weekend, September 5 and 6, artists such as Beyoncé, The Weeknd, and Modest Mouse will perform on various stages across the parkway. There will also be a food truck area and beer gardens.

This event isn’t open to the public, but tickets are on sale at the official website. If you want to beat the heat but still enjoy the music, you can live stream the festival at home.

Kennett Square Mushroom Festival

Calling all mushroom lovers! The Kennett Square Mushroom Festival will return for its 29th year for two days of food and family fun on September 12 and 13. This year’s top activities include the National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship, an antique and classic car show, and a Mushroom 5K Run/Walk through local mushroom farms.

Kennett Square is considered the mushroom capital of the world and is located in Chester County, about 30 miles outside the city of Philadelphia, so it’s a short distance if you’re in the ‘burbs.
