What to See in Philly in Fall 2015

Sep 4, 2015

In Philadelphia, as the summer heat makes way for cooler temperatures, many fall festivals and events are just around the corner. Whether you’re interested in something spooky around Halloween or the city’s art scene, there are many exciting opportunities and festivals to explore. Philadelphia has a lot to offer in every season and the fall is no exception. Check out what’s going on in Philly in fall 2015 and prepare to mark up your calendar!

Midtown Village Fall Festival

The Midtown Village Fall Festival takes place on Saturday, October 3, from 12-8 p.m. on 13th Street from Chestnut to Locust Streets. Seven blocks are closed down while thousands fill the streets to enjoy food, drinks, live entertainment, shopping, and much more. You won’t go hungry with food samplings from popular Midtown Village restaurants like Barbuzzo, Jamonera, Zavino, Pennsylvania 6, and Sampan, to name a few. Live music will be played on four different stages featuring students from the University of the Arts and many other performers. If you’re looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, check out the Sumo suit wrestling at Raw throughout the day. There is fun for the whole family with many kid-friendly activities such as a moon bounce, sand castle building, and face painting. Since the streets will be bustling, you might want to look into staying overnight at one of the great hotels Philly has to offer.

DesignPhiladelphia

DesignPhiladelphia is Philly’s city-wide celebration of design and innovation taking place on October 8-16. During the nine day festival, there are more than 130 events held throughout the city aimed to celebrate and promote Philadelphia as a design capital. Some of the events include exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and demonstrations focused on the city’s design scene and history. Most events are free.

Bloktoberfest

On October 3, at 12 p.m., Philly’s South Street West will host bands and endless craft beer options to benefit various charitable causes. Bringing in people of all ages, the festival spans four blocks with plenty of food, beer, and live music. Enjoy dishes from food trucks and samples from South Street restaurants. You must purchase a Beer Bracelet to enter the designated drinking area if you’re over 21. The festival is free to enter and pay-as-you-go for drinks and food.

Terror Behind the Walls

If you’re looking to get into the Halloween spirit, pay a visit to the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia’s Fairmount neighborhood for Terror Behind the Walls. The event runs from September 18-November 7, so you have plenty of time to check out the Hollywood-quality special effects, lighting, digital sound, and animatronic monsters. This year, there are more frightening attractions than ever, as guests can be fully immersed in the action if they choose, even being taken into hidden passageways and held back to become part of the scares. It won’t take long to see why Terror Behind the Walls is consistently ranked among the top haunted attractions in America.

With all there is going on in Philadelphia this fall, there’s no reason to be sad about summer ending.
